Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our drain services. Can't find what you're looking for? Give us a call—we're happy to help.
How quickly can you get to me?
For emergencies, we aim to reach most London locations within one to two hours. It depends on traffic and engineer availability, but we'll give you an honest estimate when you call. We operate 24/7 including weekends and bank holidays, so help is always available when you need it.
How much does drain unblocking cost?
Most straightforward blockages cost between £80 and £150 to clear. We'll always give you a fixed price before starting any work. No hidden fees or surprise charges. The exact cost depends on factors like the severity and location of the blockage, accessibility, and whether specialist equipment is required.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. You only pay for the work we do. If we can't fix the problem, you don't pay. We believe in fair, transparent pricing—you shouldn't pay just for us to turn up and look at the problem.
What causes blocked drains?
The most common causes in London are fat and grease buildup, wet wipes (even 'flushable' ones), tree root intrusion, and collapsed or cracked pipes in older properties. Victorian clay pipes are particularly prone to problems. In bathroom drains, hair and soap scum are major culprits.
Can you unblock drains in flats?
Yes. We regularly work in flats across London, including basement conversions and high-rise blocks. We understand shared drainage systems and can identify whether the issue is in your flat or the communal stack. We're experienced with the particular challenges that flat drainage systems present.
Do I need a CCTV survey?
Not always. A survey is useful if blockages keep recurring, if you're buying a property, or if we suspect structural damage. For a one-off blockage, clearing it is usually enough. We'll advise honestly on whether a survey would benefit you—we won't recommend one unless there's a good reason.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry full public liability insurance covering our work in your property. This protects you in the unlikely event that any damage occurs during our work. We can provide proof of insurance on request.
What areas do you cover?
We cover all of Greater London: North, South, East, West, and Central. From zone 1 to the outer boroughs, we can reach you. If you're unsure whether we can reach your area, just ask when you call—the answer is almost certainly yes.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. We handle drainage for restaurants, offices, shops, and other commercial premises. We can work around your business hours to minimise disruption. We have experience with the particular requirements of commercial kitchens, hospitality venues, and office buildings.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfer, credit and debit cards, and cash. Payment is due on completion of the work. For larger jobs or commercial clients, we can discuss payment arrangements.
What should I do while waiting for an engineer?
If you have a serious blockage, avoid using the affected drains. If there's flooding, try to mop up excess water to prevent damage. Turn off appliances like washing machines that drain into the affected system. Our team can provide specific advice when you call.
How can I prevent future blockages?
Avoid putting fat, grease, or oil down sinks—wipe greasy pans with kitchen paper first. Never flush wet wipes, sanitary products, or cotton buds. Use drain guards to catch hair in bathroom drains. Consider regular professional cleaning if you have recurring issues.
